Of Woks and Planets

FYI:
I had a hell-of-a-week last week with 4 exams back-to-back from Monday to Thursday. I'm glad I'm still alive.

My last post was like more than 2 weeks ago (I think) and boy is there a lot I wanna right about!
Problem is...I don't know where to start...

Let's see...

After the crazy week mentioned above, I spent the rest of the week (Thursday night and Friday) and the previous weekend "recuperating" both physically (from lack of sleep) and mentally (too many nerves were fried during the "ordeal")...

On Thursday night, I went out with my housemates and some friends to a chic coffee shop in town that is quite simply called "Kedai Kopi" (Bahasa Malaysia for "coffee shop").

It was chic cos...
(1) It had a chic name.
(2) It had a great interior design.
(3) The food items on the menu were chic.
(4) The food were served in WOKS! That's "kuali" in Bahasa...
(Now that's something you don't see elsewhere ay?) Though I'm not too sure the older generation would approve of that. (We have this belief that eating out of woks, pans, pots or other cookware is a No-No...reasons unlimited.)

Too bad I didn't have a digital camera with me to take snapshots of the eatery. It was pretty neat. Even the washbasins to wash the hands are Woks!

Woks aside, my friends and I enjoyed the open-air concept of the place.
So much so we spent more than 2 hours just sitting there sipping our hot drinks and having our wok-served dishes. Hehehe...

On Friday, I joined the CSS (Catholic Students Society) choir practice after our weekly Friday-in-Togetherness(FIT)...and later we had a birthday makan2 for our friend (and housemate).

On Saturday, my friend and I caught the 2pm show for "Snakes on a Plane" at Sunway Pyramid.

On Sunday, my roomate and I went to Tesco and bought some kitchen supplies. Then we went home and cooked dinner - something I haven't had time to do all week.

And now, its Monday and its back to routine with classes and assignments etc. We have another exam this Wednesday and I haven't revised a single thing! Time to buckle down to my chair and desk again I guess...

Now here's something I read in yesterday's paper that I can't help but state my opinion:

PLUTO HAS BEEN DEMOTED! (Read this.)

What?! How could they do that? Its. Just. So. Sad.

I grew up learning that there are NINE planets in the solar system(Mercury,Venus,Earth,Mars,Jupiter,Saturn,Uranus,Neptune and Pluto)....now there's only EIGHT?!

Its. Just. So. Sad.

I used to (and still) remember all the planets name using these mnemonics:
"My Very Eager Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas".

I guess we'll have to settle with "My Very Eager Mother Just Served Us Nothing"?

Dang...I wonder what Pluto's inhabitants would say to their planet being demoted.

One thing for sure....they ain't gonna like it.

To risk or not to risk?

FYI:
He asked me out but I couldn't go...now he doesn't text me anymore. Has he given up? And just when I was beginning to fall for him...*Sigh*

Malaysians are risk-takers.

That's what I got out of my previous class.

It was Stategic Management and we were discussing about how external factors i.e tsunami, SARS affected business and people in Malaysia.

The conclusion was:

After tsunami, a lot of people still came to Langkawi and Penang where else in other countries, tsunami-affected resorts were suffering from a declining number of tourists.
When the country was hit with SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome), Malaysian malls and hotels and public places were still packed as if it was any other day.

Now,there's kinda like a haze (jerebu) enveloping the Klang valley...and still we go about breathing in and out and going on with life....

I guess Malaysians (myself included) are either risk-takers or are just "too good" for their own good.

That's just my opinion.

Alone or lonesome?

That pretty much sums up my experience this previous weekend.

So the 3-day module thing is finally over...and I'm glad. Now I can get back to the "civilisation" that I belong to.

You see, while the "rest of civilisation"(aka my batch of coursemates) have attended the module last year, I haven't due to unforseen circumstances. *coughs*actually I ditched the module to join ICG at Peace Haven last year*coughs*...and so it was just me...

And luckily, two others as well.

One was an international student from Mauritius - she missed the module last year because she wasn't aware there was one.
Another was a coursemate and part-classmate since we're in the same Mass Lecture class - he missed it last year cos he had to go back home to look after his then sick Mom.

They were the only two farmiliar faces in the hall...and eventhough we never talked, the three of us became quite well-acquainted by the end of the 3 days...

Which leads me to this theory: When you're the minority and you don't know nobody, you tend to be more "open" to those who have at least SOME - if not the most - similarities with you...

So I guess the weekend wasn't that much of a waste...I've sincerely added 2 new people into my list of Friends (and I'm not talking friends.ter here).

Also, on the third day of the module, I even bumped into a senior of mine when I was doing my diploma in Samarahan.

Suddenly, I wasn't alone anymore.

A busy weekend

FYI:
The previous week has been quite busy but alright. Next week is gonna be worse. *Sigh*

That's what's gonna be happening this 3 days in a row beginning today...

While last week Friday I was all hyped about the Workshop I attended during the week, today I'm dreading having to go for this Module (aka 3-day seminar) beginning 45 minutes from now until 5.30pm Sunday...

Hope this module is as fun as that workshop I attended.
Though I SERIOUSLY doubt that...

Nak Blog pun susah! (Direct translation: Blogging also troublesome!)

So here's the deal:

I read in yesterday's paper that Malaysia (meaning "some" people) are thinking of having the Government "regulate and give guidelines" to bloggers about what they "can" or "cannot" blog about and as to "how" they go about blogging it.

WTF?!

That's just gonna turn the whole blogasphere into another boring one-streamed opinion bunch of writers!

I think that's just crap.

Okay, so maybe bloggers write certain things about current issues (sensitive or not) and the media/mass population that stumble onto their blogs read it - and perhaps agree with their opinion and make it a "credible" source of information - it's not the blogger's fault!

Being a blogger (and loving it!) myself, this just struck me as being absurb. Why?

1. When someone reads MY blog, I didn't MAKE them believe me...I just state my opinion and the readers form their own. (That's why the "comments" function at the bottom of each post exists!)

2. I never claimed (and am not claiming) that all that's written here is credible (i.e as something you would die for believing, or something you can put under "references" in your reports!)...I write what I feel, MY opinions and MY view of things.

3. The media/mass population should know better to differentiate between CREDIBLE INFORMATION and PERSONAL OPINION.

That's MY PERSONAL OPINION.
